Commander: Austria's First Climate-Neutral Data Centre
Where your data lives, and why it matters
Commander is SaaS, hosted in a private cloud at conova communications GmbH in Salzburg, Austria. That is not just a technical detail. It is a deliberate choice, and it comes with a dimension that we are proud to share: conova became the first data centre in Austria to have fully offset its greenhouse gas emissions for 2021 and 2022.
Every piece of data that flows through Commander, including vehicle positions, trip records, tachograph downloads, and logbook entries, is processed and stored in a facility that takes its environmental footprint seriously. That matters for companies with sustainability reporting obligations. And it matters as a simple statement about how we choose to operate.
How conova achieved climate neutrality
conova’s climate neutrality is not a pledge. It is a completed action. The company purchased 500 certificates under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Forest Uruguay programme, a reforestation initiative that stores atmospheric CO₂. The greenhouse gas emissions for 2021 and 2022 are offset. The certification covers the full operational period.
For Commander customers, this means that the infrastructure powering your fleet management platform already carries a verified environmental offset, without any action required on your part.
The values behind the decision
Hosting Commander with conova reflects a broader commitment. Rosenberger Telematics has been a member of ARGE proEthik since 2015, a voluntary commitment to sustainable and social standards that goes beyond legal compliance. The company’s published values include four core objectives:
- Correctness, honesty, professionalism, and transparency in every relationship
- Active contribution to job creation
- Non-discrimination in the workplace across all protected categories
- Concrete environmental measures: battery recovery programmes and packaging reduction
Choosing a climate-neutral data centre for Commander is consistent with those commitments. It is also consistent with the expectation that technology companies, and the customers who use them, should be able to account for the environmental impact of their digital infrastructure, not just their physical operations.
Austrian hosting: GDPR and data sovereignty by default
The environmental dimension is one part of the story. The other is data sovereignty. conova’s private cloud in Salzburg means Commander data stays within EU jurisdiction, fully subject to GDPR. No third-country transfers. No ambiguity about applicable law. For customers in industries with strict data localisation requirements, this is not a nice-to-have. It is a compliance requirement met by default.
Your fleet data: secure, GDPR-compliant, climate-conscious.
