The digital transformation of THIR: A success story

THIR, we move — that is the company’s motto, and it holds true in every sense. THIR GmbH & Co KG, based in Hürm, operates across earthworks, horticulture and landscaping, site clearing, building demolition, concrete paths, paving, gravel works, transport, and vehicle technology. The company has approximately 60 years of experience, around 100 employees, and a mixed fleet of approximately 80 vehicles.

Before introducing Commander, THIR faced a challenge familiar across construction and transport: no unified digital view of the entire fleet and equipment. Dispatch decisions relied on phone calls and institutional memory, maintenance was reactive rather than planned, and assets were tracked inconsistently.

The highest level of expertise despite versatility — this was also sought in a partner.

When selecting a telematics partner, THIR placed a high priority on industry expertise and rapid implementation capability. The choice fell on Rosenberger Telematics — based on its reputation in the market and its ability to deliver the requirements quickly and reliably.

The specific requirements: complete fleet visibility via GPS, remote access to operating hours and kilometre readings for maintenance planning, and detection of unauthorised vehicle starts and idle times. More than 100 telematics units were installed — with predefined processes and online real-time diagnostics that achieved a zero error rate during installation.

Telematics is indispensable today.

Commander delivered a complete digital picture of all vehicles, machinery, and attachments for the first time. Dispatch became data-driven. Maintenance intervals were tied to actual usage. Employee communication improved, customer satisfaction increased through precise arrival forecasts, empty runs were reduced, and optimisation opportunities became visible.

The result: approximately 20% cost savings through better capacity utilisation and more than 50% time savings in property management. Digitalisation has become, in THIR’s own words, a new competitive advantage.

“The Commander is so intuitive to use that everyone in the building enjoys working with it. It has become indispensable today. All our construction sites and our vehicle fleet are digitally recorded and provide data for scheduling and the workshop. It saves us an incredible amount of time as we can always call up the current location and machine data status,”
